Peacock is significantly updating its mobile application with a suite of new features centered on AI and short-form video, signaling a strategic pivot towards a more interactive, social media-style user experience. The NBCUniversal streamer announced a personalized vertical video feed for its popular Bravo franchises narrated by a generative AI avatar, along with AI-optimized vertical broadcasts for live NBA games and new mobile games. This move represents a direct effort to capture and retain user attention on mobile devices, where streaming services increasingly compete with platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

The centerpiece of the announcement is “Your Bravoverse,” a feature that uses computer vision to analyze over 5,000 hours of Bravo content and AI agents trained on fan behavior to create personalized clip playlists. An AI-generated avatar of host Andy Cohen will narrate these streams, connecting storylines and recommending content. In sports, Peacock will debut AI-driven real-time cropping for vertical live NBA broadcasts. This investment in new technology comes as Peacock, with 44 million subscribers, seeks new growth drivers after reporting a $552 million loss in the fourth quarter of 2025.

By integrating these features, Peacock is positioning itself less as a traditional streaming service and more as a multifaceted entertainment hub. The strategy mirrors moves by competitors like Disney+ and Netflix, which are also experimenting with short-form video to promote their catalogs. However, Peacock's deeper integration of generative AI for narration and content curation, building on its 2024 Olympics AI recap feature, suggests a more aggressive push to use the technology for direct content creation. This approach aims to transform passive viewing into active engagement, a critical metric as streaming platforms fight for a path to profitability in a saturated market.

Peacock is betting that AI-driven personalization and a mobile-first, interactive format can help it compete directly with social media giants for user attention, shifting its strategy from a passive content library to an active entertainment hub.
