Anthropic Commits $150M to National AI Fellowship Program

Anthropic has announced Claude Corps, a national fellowship program backed by an initial $150 million commitment designed to address the workforce impact of artificial intelligence. The initiative will train 1,000 early-career individuals on Anthropic's Claude models and place them in full-time, paid positions at nonprofits across the United States for one year. This move represents a direct investment by a major AI lab to proactively manage economic disruption and embed AI skills within the social sector.

Operational Framework and Fellow Experience

The program is structured as a partnership between three key organizations. Anthropic will provide funding, overall strategy, and technical expertise. CodePath, a nonprofit focused on computer science education, will serve as the employer of record and manage the fellows' training and mentorship. The nonprofit Social Finance will handle measurement and evaluation to build a financial model for future scaling. Fellows will undergo intensive training before being matched with one of at least 400 host organizations, such as Goodwill Industries International, RAINN, and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

  • Fellowship Duration: 12 months
  • Compensation: $85,000 full-time salary plus benefits
  • Training: Intensive initial training followed by five hours of ongoing training per week
  • Support: Mentorship from CodePath and technical office hours with Anthropic
  • Resources: An expansive Claude token budget for project work

Ecosystem Impact and a New Model for Corporate Responsibility

Claude Corps establishes a potential new blueprint for how AI developers can engage with the societal changes their technologies accelerate. By directly funding and training a workforce to apply AI in mission-driven organizations, Anthropic is moving beyond traditional corporate philanthropy. The program aims to create a scalable, nationwide effort that builds practical AI capacity in communities, rather than just donating funds. Anthropic's stated intention to open-source the program's core infrastructure suggests an ambition to create a replicable model that other companies and countries could adopt to widen the benefits of AI during a period of significant economic transition.

With Claude Corps, Anthropic is executing a strategic play that combines corporate social responsibility with long-term ecosystem development, embedding a generation of professionals trained specifically on its platform into the fabric of American civil society.
